The area described in this report lies between the Knik and Matanuska rivers in south central Alaska. These rivers flow westward and converge as they enter Knik Arm, a branch of Cook Inlet, near the town of Palmer. Owing to this convergence the region studied has a trianguler outline. It is bounded on the east by a line drawn from Kings Mountain, on the south bank of the Matanuska River, to the Knik Glacier. Each leg of the triangle is approximately 25 miles in length, and the area included within it is about 335 square miles. The most important gold producing creek in the study area is Metal Creek near Knik Glacier. 48 pages, includes fold-out map. |
