The HEX gold pan incorporates the features of the square pans and all the features of the round traditional gold pans. The name of the pan says it all. The HEX has 6 sides, two with large riffles, two with smaller riffles, and two with a rough textured finishing surface.
The riffles found in a round pan are inefficient because the material is squeezed into the center of the riffle, leaving most of the riffle surface unused. This makes no more sense than having a round bottom in s sluice box! The flat riffle surfaces in the HEX pan spread the material out over the entire riffle surface for quicker panning with less loss of gold.
