This unique coil measures 18" long by only 3.5" wide! The Bigfoot is so good that some clubs have tried to outlaw it in competition hunts because it covers up to twice the ground in one sweep! The "FOOT" style loop is the most innovative loop design in the history of metal detecting. Over 12,000 have been sold to date and orders are still coming in steadily. The theory behind the design is called "differential" loop geometry. That is to say, the front half of the loop is positive while the back half remains negative. This allows for better canceling of ground mineralization and ease of pinpointing. All round loops send down a signal in the shape of a cone. At the maximum detection depth of the loop, this only covers an area about the size of a silver dollar. The Bigfoot sends down a signal shaped like a windshield wiper blade and in the discriminate mode, covers a path equivalent to the length of the loop (eighteen inches). In the "all metal" mode the Bigfoot detects from the front half of the loop only. This characteristic makes it possible to pinpoint very accurately. Please note this also means you can only get a signal out of one half of the coil in the all-metal DFX Prospecting Mode. The Bigfoot attains depths about equivalent to an 8" diameter loop. Its main advantage is that it covers more ground in one sweep and is ideal for searching large areas, such as beaches, ski slopes, fields and parks.
The Bigfoot does work on the White's MXT and new White's M6, but you get a normal, positive signal off the front 9" of the coil, and a reversed "double-blip" signal off the rear 9" of the coil. This is because the rear half is nulling over the target. The signal is weak in the middle of the coil where these two signal types mix. Target id numbers are also skewed slightly higher. So while the Bigfoot does work on the MXT and M6 it takes more practice to get used to the signals it puts out.
