Thread: Gold Bug Pro

Hi Dick,
Two very good questions! I have a bunch of Gold Bug Pros on order as I expect it to sell very well at the introductory price - nothing else comes close to the feature set at $499. I tried to call my supplier Friday to find out when we may get the units but got no answer and will try again this week and report back.
As far as price goes Fisher calls the shots on that and all I've heard so far is "a few weeks after release" the price will go up.
I'm going to have Bob start a list of people who want one so people can lock in the intro price.

I'll see the Fisher Rep at the GPAA gold show in Las Vegas this weekend and I'll see if I can get anything from him about when the detector will be released or at least some update on its progress.

Steve,
Any idea if Fisher will raise prices on other F-series detectors when the Gold Bug Pro price goes up?
I ask because when the GB Pro price goes up it's going to be close in price to the F-70, which has a few more features the GB doesn't have, even though it's lower in frequency.

Hi Jeff,
I'm not aware of any other planned price increases at this time. That does not mean there will not be any!

I'm still waiting to see these available through dealers. I recently saw the earlier model at Cabela's, but didn't dare to buy it. I don't know how much of a difference there would be between them but I think I'll wait a little longer.

Well I talked with the Rep, and its a complex story - yes they are coming out with a GB pro at a reduced price shortly. These will be the "Cabelas" version. They are continuing to tweak the electronics and sound output, and probably will be for a month or two - the changes will not be large, and most users (like the new prospectors who buy one) will not be able to tell the difference. After the design is finally set in concrete by Dave Johnson, they will incorporate the changes into the model they sell, but it will also be called a Goldbug pro, and I don't know if there will be any specific way to tell the difference.

Thanks for the update Chris. Did you have a chance to chat about any plans by Fisher to develop a ground balancing PI unit?
Incidentally, I've been reading much of the material presented on your website. Thanks a million for making that effort, the mineralogy information really held my attention. It's quite a reality check to realize how much there is to learn. I also especially enjoyed reading the sections on the MXT. So thanks again, enjoyable informative stuff!!
Jim.

Hi,
Well, I'm not sure what to think now. I will have units in a few weeks, and I'm told they will be the "tweaked" units. Whatever that means.

Jim - Sorry I didn't get a chance to talk about that. See my coments on the new TDI units. I think both are working on "projects" but who knows when or if a final version of these might hit the market. I dont think anything totally new is about to hit the market along those lines soon. The website is slowly growing, I have lots of ideas of stuff to add, it just takes time to put it all together.
Steve - well it seems like the more info that is available more the questions come out. Maybe these are tweaked units better than the Cabelas unit, but not the final version? I just dont know. The bottom line is that I think the pro will be a good detector and widely popular.

Hmmm,
Just got confirmation dealer units will be improved over Cabelas unit, mostly in the audio, but with further tweaks when price goes to $699.
Anybody have a Cabelas version? Does it display a software version anywhere on the screen when fired up? Hopefully there is going to be some way a couple years from now to know which units are which for people buying used ones.
