Hi Allen,
I assume you are talking Gold Bug Special Edition? As far as I know the Gold Bug Pro is not out yet.

Hi Allen,
The new Gold Bug Special Edition was not intended to replace the Gold Bug 2. It was intended to be a good gold detector at a lower price. The bottom line is the Gold Bug 2 will hit smaller gold, and handle hot ground better than the SE. The SE, however, has a target id readout and adjustable discrimination mode. This makes it a much more versatile machine. The unit is a bargain for the price. But if you have a Gold Bug 2 and are looking for a better unit strictly for prospecting, the Gold Bug SE is not it.
The only thing the SE might do is hit a big nugget deeper in mineralized ground than the Gold Bug 2. I will have to do a test and see. Check back tomorrow or Saturday latest.

Hi all
I did try to do a comparison but my Gold Bug was one that wanted to go back to the States for a holiday and get a few serious attitude problems fixed so it was a big win to the GB2. The GB (no SE or any other label anywhere on my machine or packaging so I am presuming it is simply a Gold Bug) has now arrived back from its transformation interigation and is now a different machine althogether however I havent had time to get out and see what it can actually do in the field. Before it was sent away it was able to find No.6 shotgun pellets but the GB2 can find down to No.9 pellets. If I get time tomorrow I might get it out and test it with some small bits of gold and see just what it is capable of.
cheers

I too have been comparing the GB Digital with the GB2. Would be interested if you had done this test. The only thing the SE might do is hit a big nugget deeper in mineralized ground than the Gold Bug 2. I will have to do a test and see. Check back tomorrow or Saturday latest.

I got busy, then winter arrived. It is likely the Gold Bug Pro hit large gold deeper than the Gold Bug 2 but I have not verified that in the field.

though not a comparison to the Gold Bug 2, this is a good read on the Gold Bug Pro: (pretty long so use the link)

Funny thing is people most want to compare the Gold Bug 2 and Gold Bug Pro when that is apples and oranges. The Gold Bug Pro is more a machine like the MXT, X-Terra 705, or even AT Gold. Mid-frequency do it all detectors.
