Suction Nozzles

Suction Nozzles
The suction nozzle (and power jet below) is the heart of a suction dredge. Water pumped into the small input creates the suction that makes the dredge work. Suction nozzles self-priming, and are therefore ideal for 2.5" and smaller dredges which tend to work shallow water areas. The suction nozzle installs at the working end of the suction hose and is fed by an extra-long pressure hose from the pump. Sizes are listed as suction hose size x pump hose size.

Power Jets
Power Jets
The alternative to the suction nozzle, it is used inline with the hose and normally attached directly to the sluice box. It is used in conjunction with the suction tips or swivel tips above. May also be used as an inline booster with a second pump for extra long suction hoses. The power jet is considered to be slightly more efficient than a suction nozzle, and is normally the unit of choice on 3" and larger dredges. Sizes are listed as suction hose size x pump hose size.
