About This Website

This website was started in November 1998. Like many established businesses, we wanted to put up a website, both to offer online product information, and to help facilitate the ordering process. This is especially important for customers who live in remote parts of Alaska. Our unique product mix has also gathered interest outside Alaska.

The site started as an after-hours project by Steve Herschbach, but it's success has been such that management of the website has become shared by several individuals. Any good website is constantly evolving, and such is the case with ours. We are constantly working on new additions and updates. We are proud of the fact that the website is totally maintained in-house, and has paid for itself every step of the way.

2012 Update - We have added a second website at www.akmining.net as an online shopping site for everything but the mining product, which will stay at http://www.akmining.com/store.htm for now. We also have a new eBay Store at http://stores.ebay.com/Alaska-Mining-and-Diving-Supply

The website averaged 7,285 visitors per day in November 2011, with a total of 218,553 visitors. This was not hits or page views, but actual visitors.

The website is hosted by Pair Networks. We use Microsoft FrontPage to build the website but are converting to Expression. Graphics are optimized with IrfanView32. The shopping cart system is by Americart. The shopping pages are generated directly from our inventory using Full Convert and GDIdb Pro. Updates to the search engines are done via Submit Express. Our site search engine is powered by Picosearch.com. Site statistic analysis is with Webalizer.
